Prosecutor reported to Attorney General

TANGERANG (JP): A dispute at the Tangerang District Prosecutors' Office continued on Thursday as one of the attorneys, Pudji Basuki, was reported to the Attorney General's Office for allegedly extorting money from other counselors.

Pudji, head of the office's General Crimes Section, allegedly took money from the attorneys in return for him assigning them to big and profitable cases.

"If an attorney paid him (Pudji) a sum of money, Pudji then gave him good cases in return. Otherwise, the attorneys would only handle small cases," attorney Andi Aco, who reported the case to the Attorney General's Office, said on Thursday.

Pudji denied the allegations. "You can check with other attorneys in the office," he told the media.

However, a Sinar Utama daily reporter, Amir Hasibuan, said he would report Pudji to the police.

"He (Pudji) took all documents about his wrongdoings from me when I was about to confirm the accusations with him," Amir said. (41/edt)
