Prosecutor demands 7 years for TV actor

JAKARTA: South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office recommended a seven year prison term for Faisal, a television series star, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl last November.

"The compounding factors are, among other things, Faisal was uncooperative while giving statements during the investigation," prosecutor Wargo said while reading the recommended sentence at the South Jakarta District Court on Wednesday.

He added that the actor's denial of his guilt was also deemed a compounding factor.

Faisal was accused of violating Article 285 of the Criminal Code on rape. The offense carries a maximum of 12 years imprisonment.

Faisal, who played in Cinta SMU (Love at high school) TV drama, was reported to the police on Nov. 3, 2003, for allegedly raping a girl in a hotel in South Jakarta. -- JP
