Project assessment board told not to collude with contractors
JAKARTA (JP): Provincial Secretary Harun Al Rasyid has called on the acting members of the municipal committee in charge of pre-qualification assessments of projects not to collude with contractors and to shun bribery.
"I hope that you will not commit collusion (with contractors), accept bribery, intentionally complicate the procedure, and become brokers for bogus contractors," Harun told them during a meeting at city hall on Monday.
Harun is the chief of the committee.
Harun said the task of the acting members of the committee was to single out qualified contractors applying to handle the projects of the municipality for the 1994/95 fiscal year.
"We hope through selection you will sign contracts with some professional and bonafide contractors, who deserve the partnership with the municipality," said Harun.
Harun's speech marked the opening of a two-day course, starting on Monday, held to upgrade the skills of the acting members of the committee.
In his speech Harun particularly focused on the moral obligations of the members.
"In the past acting members were considered to have done their jobs relatively well. Now, I hope you all, who are mostly newcomers to this undertaking, can better the image of the committee, and not do the opposite," said Harun.
There are 94 acting members of the committee joining the course, comprising 19 personnel from the Jakarta chapter of the Public Labor Ministry, 11 from the Jakarta chapter of the Industry Ministry, nine from the Jakarta chapter of the Ministry of Agriculture, 11 from the Jakarta chapter of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, three from the Municipal Mines Office, and 21 from the Municipal Treasury Office.
Rozali ZA, Secretary to the Municipal Committee of Pre- qualification Assessment for the period of 1994/97, said the two- day course was aimed at creating better understanding and team work among the acting members as well as developing their skills and knowledge of their tasks. (jsk)
