Profits surge at phone kiosks

GUNUNGKIDUL, Yogyakarta: Phone kiosks in Gunungkidul have enjoyed huge profits during the Idul Fitri holiday, as more people called their relatives or friends during the holidays.

"We opened 24 hours during the Idul Fitri holiday," Ardi, the owner of a phone kiosk in Semanu district, said on Friday.

On normal days, he estimated revenue at Rp 100,000 to Rp 200,000.

But, on Tuesday and Wednesday, the first and the second day of Idul Fitri, he could earn Rp 600,000 and Rp 750,000 respectively. "On Thursday, the revenue dropped again to Rp 300,000," he said.

A similar experience was also shared by Narto, the owner of a phone kiosk in the neighboring Wonosari district. -- Antara
