Probe on corruption case sought

TANGERANG: Several Tangerang officials are suspected of corruption in a case involving 14 housing developers.

Head of the intelligence section at Tangerang Prosecutors' Office Nandi Warsidi said the main suspect was the former chief of the Municipal Revenue Agency, Agus Burhanudin, who is currently at large.

He also suspected that Agus managed to escape with the help of some officials in the agency who are allegedly involved in the scandal. But Nandi failed to explain why the other officials had not been legally dealt with.

Chairman of Tangerang Government Watch Tony Wismantoro regretted on Wednesday that prosecutors had failed to thoroughly solve the case.

He said there are 120 housing developers in Tangerang. Thirty- five of them had agreed to fulfill their obligation to provide 2.5 percent of the land for public facilities.

It has turned out, however, that 14 of the 35 developers have allegedly sold the land to officials at the revenue agency. --JP
