Private fund used to restore markets
A city official has said the city administration will use a private Rp 3 billion fund to renovate some dilapidated traditional markets managed by the Jakarta Market Authority.
Prawoto said the funds came from owners of private shopping centers.
"The fund will be used to renovate several old markets," said Prawoto S. Danoemihardja, assistant to the City Secretary for Economic and Development affairs.
Under a Gubernatorial Decree, owners of shopping centers must provide 20 percent of total space in their buildings for small traders or pay a sum of money to the city administration if they refuse to do so. (yns)
