Prince of Wales gets award from Brunei

INDONESIA: The government of Brunei Darussalam will present the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah International Prize to the Prince of Wales for the promotion of dialog between Islamic and Western civilizations, the British Embassy in Jakarta said in a media release sent to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

"The Prince of Wales is being awarded the prize in recognition of his advocacy of the need for greater mutual understanding between the Islamic and Western worlds over many years," the embassy said.

The international jury took into account the Prince's public statement, such as his speech Islam and the West in 1993 when he became patron of the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies, as well as practical initiatives, including his efforts to encourage interest in Islamic cultural heritage through in his School of Traditional Arts, it said.

The prize will be awarded on Thursday by Sultan of Brunei Bolkiah. -- JP
