Prices of basic needs on the rise in Jambi

JAMBI, Jambi: The price of basic necessities in Jambi has been on the rise since last week, due to rising demand ahead of the Idul Fitri festivity.

The price of sugar and kerosene has risen to Rp 4,500 a kilogram and Rp 1,500 a liter from Rp 3,800 and Rp 890 respectively last week, a survey of retailers showed.

Provincial Industry and Trade Office head Dadan Danuarso called on people on Wednesday to avoid panic buying, as it would only further raise prices.

"We will sort out the problem, by increasing the supplies of basic items in Jambi," he said. -- JP
