Presidential guard chief to take oath
JAKARTA: The new presidential guard commander, Brig. Gen. Agung Widjajadi, will be sworn in by Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto at the Presidential Guard headquarters in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Friday.
Briefing the press after a meeting with President Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Presidential Palace on Thursday, outgoing presidential guard commander Maj. Gen. Nono Sampono said that he would assume his new post as the Navy Academy governor in Surabaya, East Java.
Agung, who is also a Navy officer, is currently the chief of administration bureau in the presidential military secretary's office. He will be promoted to a two-star general during the ceremony.
Megawati's daughter Puan Maharani is slated to attend the ceremony.--JP
