Presidential car arrives in Dili

JAKARTA: Indonesia's warship KRI Teluk Sampit, carrying the presidential car aboard, anchored at Dili on Friday.

The car is to be used by President Megawati Soekarnoputri during here visit to attend East Timor's independence celebration and the swearing-in of Alessandro Xanana Gusmao, as its maiden president on May 20, 2002.

The President is scheduled to arrive in Dili on Sunday night and return early on Tuesday. Early on Sunday, the President will visit Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara to install a number of infrastructure projects in the province.

The warship, which is also carrying the presidential guard, is the first to visit the former Indonesian province since the territory voted for independence in 1999. -- Antara
