President too busy to sign letters

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri has delayed the signing of three letters on government-sponsored bills on taxes and the government regulation in lieu of law on illegal logging.

A member of her presidential election campaign team said on Friday the President's busy schedule at the Mega Center was the reason for the delay.

The letters are required by the House of Representatives to begin deliberation on the three bills on taxes.

Megawati is one of six candidates to contest the first-ever presidential election on July 5.--JP
