Precocious child in book of record

JAKARTA (JP): She is only four-year-old, but she writes Roman numerals up to 2,000, calculates the cotangent, cosine and sine of a triangle and the roots of numbers of up to 225,000.

Because of her precocious ability, Mega Cristivana from Surakarta, Central Java, was entered into the Indonesian Museum of Records Thursday.

The toddler impressed a panel of judges, led by the museum's director Jaya Suprana, who "tested" her in the Central Java capital of Semarang.

According to Antara yesterday, Mega also displayed her stunning spatial ability by denoting structures such as the triangle, square and rhombus.

Also entered into the Indonesian book of records the same day was four-year-old Sotya Satmaka Adira from Yogyakarta, Central Java, whose paintings have been published in well-known publications like Republika daily, and children's magazines Bobo and Fantasi.

Antara quoted the museum's manager Paulus Pangka as saying that with the listing of the two prodigies' names the number of people in the record grew to 307. The museum was established on Jan. 27, 1990.

A recent record-making toddler was three-year-old Agi Patrio Soegiantoro from Semarang who knows the answers to more than 400 questions that often befuddle adults.

Agi can explain how a lunar eclipse occurs, and who invented Molotov cocktails and missiles.

He also knew how Diana, Princess of Wales, died and the names of some prominent presidents and heads of state. (09)
