PPP wants assets of Soeharto frozen
SURAKARTA, Central Java: The Surakarta branch of the United Development Party (PPP) has sent letters to at least nine heads of government asking them to freeze assets belonging to former president Soeharto.
The letter, signed by Surakarta branch chairman M. Sangida and secretary Zaenal Ma'arif, was sent yesterday through the embassies of the respective countries in Jakarta.
"We hope that the heads of government we sent letters to will freeze assets belonging to Soeharto and his family in their respective countries and hand them over to the people of Indonesia," Zaenal said.
He said letters were sent to the leaders of Australia, Brunei, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland and the United States. (har)
