PPP to name presidential nominees

JAKARTA: The United Development Party (PPP) will select its
presidential nominees at the party's congress in May, party
leader Hamzah Haz said on Friday.

"The upcoming congress in May will determine our presidential
nominees after hearing recommendations from party members," said
Hamzah, who is also the country's vice president.

Candidates from PPP will compete with Megawati Soekarnoputri
from the country's largest political party, the Indonesian
Democratic Party of Struggle; Amien Rais, leader of the National
Mandate Party; and Yusril Ihza Mahendra from the Crescent Star
Party.

The Golkar Party, the second largest in the country, has not
yet named a definite presidential nominee. -- JP
