PPP stops outdoor campaigning

BANTUL, Yogyakarta: The Bantul branch of the United Development Party (PPP) branch will not campaign outdoors in the third phase of the election campaign, which starts on Friday, a PPP official said on Thursday.

"In the third phase, we shall order our party members to stay at home and contemplate what we should do to win the election," said Achmad Subagyo, chairman of the Bantul branch of PPP.

The decision was taken after the party evaluated the outdoor campaign in the regency during the first and second phases of the election campaign. PPP observed that party members had frequently violated traffic regulations and also disturbed the peace.

"As a result, the party has received many complaints from the Bantul General Elections Commission, which have damaged the party's image. For the sake of the party, outdoor campaigning has to be stopped," he said. -- JP
