PPP needs own TV station

MEDAN: The United Development Party (PPP) says its sick of state television station TVRI favoring Golkar in its campaign coverage.

PPP functionaries have complained that every evening TVRI gives Golkar more air time and dramatic footage than it does to the PPP or the Indonesian Democratic Party.

To show their disgust, PPP campaigners paraded here Monday with a box shaped like a TV camera with the inscription "TV P3". Supporters raised their fists and yelled: "Viva TV PPP."

"We urge TVRI to prove its motto 'Building the nation's unity' by balanced reporting," campaigner Yunus Rasyid was quoted by Antara as saying.

The PPP's rally also featured a man wearing a hat inscribed with a message saying the shaman who admitted last week killing 42 women was not a PPP member. (pan)
