PPP displays 1-km-long banner

SURAKARTA: The United Development Party (PPP) has spent Rp 8
million (US$3,300) making a one-kilometer-long banner to connect
the city with the Kartosuro western suburb.

The one-meter-wide banner was more effective at attracting
public attention than politicians' speeches and rhetoric on the
same old issues, party activists said yesterday.

"With this poster, we mean to show our love for the PPP, not
show off our wealth or something," Surakarta PPP executive
Sunardi told The Jakarta Post.

Fanatical local PPP supporters had made the banner by
themselves, he said. (har/pan)
