PPP councilors sworn in

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Three members of the United Development Party (PPP) faction were sworn into the South Sulawesi Provincial Council on Monday, Antara reported.

Masyur Palewangi, Natsir Dg Mappaseng and Abubakar Wasahua, who were installed by Speaker Amin Syam during a plenary meeting, brought the size of the council to 74 members.

Antara did not say why the three took up their posts on Monday when the rest were inducted in October. Another elected member from the Indonesian United Islam Party (PSII) has yet to be installed.

South Sulawesi is a stronghold of the Golkar Party which won 44 council seats in the June election. Its nearest rivals are the Indonesian Military/National Police faction with eight representatives and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) with five members. (01)
