PPP activists attack vehicles

SURABAYA: Local military commander Maj. Gen. Imam Utomo has summoned United Development Party (PPP) leaders to account for recent vandalism involving party activists.

The incident took place Sunday in Pasuruan when trucks of PPP activists heading for Surabaya to attend the party's 24th anniversary celebration pounded vehicles with branches they had chopped from trees beside the road.

Several cars and at least two buses plying the Pasuruan- Mojokerto route were reported damaged.

"They have to take responsibility for the incident," Imam said here Tuesday.

He accepted the incident would not have happened if the security personnel escorting the activists had done their job properly, Antara reported. (pan)
