PPD back in operation after strike
JAKARTA: Employees of state-owned PPD city bus company went back to work on Thursday after the management met their demand not to scrap their daily meal allowance.
On Wednesday, the drivers went on strike to protest the management's decision to stop the meal allowance while at the same time increasing their daily target.
Each crew gets Rp 20,000 in meal allowance per day for the driver and either one or two conductors.
"If the management scrap our meal allowance, it will be tougher on us as it has set a higher daily target," a driver, John Waldemar, told The Jakarta Post while manning his P11 bus plying the route between Kampung Rambutan bus terminal, East Jakarta, and Kota, West Jakarta.
John said the management had increased the daily target by Rp 12,000 per shift on top of the existing Rp 240,000 per shift.
"But we must pay for our own fuel, effectively making our daily target soar to more than Rp 350,000." -- JP
