Powerful quake jolts Bengkulu

BENGKULU, Bengkulu: A powerful quake registering 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Bengkulu province and its surrounding areas on Saturday night at 10:45 p.m. No reports of damage or casualties were available, according to Antara.

Armin Paimin, the head of the local geophysics station, said the quake was centered at a depth of 33 kilometers below sea level, some 17 kilometers east of here.

M. Soleh, a local resident, reported feeling strong tremors near Panorama, which caused locals to rush out of their homes. (swe)
