Posthumous GOWA award for Lopa

JAKARTA (JP): The non-governmental organization Government Watch (GOWA) is to present its first award to the late Baharuddin Lopa in recognition of his efforts to curb corruption, collusion and nepotism in the country.

Government Watch coordinator Farid R. Faqih said the award ceremony would take place on Aug. 27, which also happens to be the former attorney general's birthday.

"The day will also be declared Anti-Corruption Day," he told journalists as quoted by Antara on Sunday.

The organization plans to honor people who are regarded as having shown a strong commitment to eradicating corruption, especially in the bureaucracy.

Lopa was known for his integrity as a law enforcer.

He died of heart failure early in June of this year.(bby)
