Post FC clears first hurdle

JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta Post Anniversary Cup invitation soccer tournament kicked off on Sunday, with the host team clearing its first hurdle by beating Media Indonesia in a penalty shootout on Sunday.

The two teams were level at 3-3 at the end of regular time, after Media scored the equalizer 15 minutes from the final whistle.

In the next round, to be played on Thursday, the Post will meet RCTI, which thrashed ANZ Panin Bank 11-0 in the second match on Sunday.

Held at ABC field in Gelora Bung Karno sports complex, the week-long tournament has 16 teams in its draw, representing media organizations, banks, hotels and advertising agencies. The competition uses a knock-out format.

The event has been initiated to commemorate the Post's 18th anniversary. Also sponsoring the event is PT Andalan Dunia Semesta, the distributor of Japan's lubricant producer Nippon Mitsubishi Oil. (amd)
