'Pos Kota' employees robbed

JAKARTA (JP): Two employees of the Pos Kota morning daily, well renowned for its crime stories, were robbed by three men who stole their bag containing a cheque worth Rp 50 million and Rp 34 million in cash. The incident took place behind their office on Jl. Kejayaan, West Jakarta, on Monday.

Eye witnesses said the three robbers had been sitting in a nearby roadside stall before intercepting Kamdi and Iie, who were about to go to a bank to deposit the money.

Kamdi and Iie work in the advertising department of the newspaper.

Kamdi and Iie said the robbers grabbed the bag and threatened to stab the two members of staff with a machete if they tried to resist.

The victims shouted for help as the robbers escaped on two motorcycles, a police officer quoted the victims as saying.

A police detective who happened to be in the area tried to chase the robbers on a motorcycle, witnesses said.

He, however, failed to arrest the three men because his motorcycle stalled. (jun)
