Portuguese royalty arrives in Dili

DILI, East Timor: The son of the former King of Portugal of
the Braganca Dynasty, Duges Duarte Duke of Braganca, Duarte Piao,
arrived here yesterday for a four-day visit at the invitation of
Dili Bishop Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo.

The delegation yesterday met with Commander of the Regional
Military Command of Wira Dharma, Col. Slamat Sidabutar, Chief of
the East Timor Police, Col. Atok Rismanto and East Timor
Governor, Abilio Jose Soares, Antara reported.

Rismanto said the aim of the visit is to observe the
development of the province since his last visit here in 1974.

Besides visiting East Timor, the Duke of Braganca is also
slated to visit tourist destinations, including those in Jakarta
and Yogyakarta. (mds)
