Pompong Sinks at Tanjung Buton Port, Siak; Three Missing
The Pekanbaru Search and Rescue Office (SAR) received a report of a shipwreck involving a pompong at Tanjung Buton Port, Sungai Rawa Village, Sungai Apit District, Siak Regency, on Tuesday (7/7) around midnight local time. The incident occurred while the pompong was conducting a draft survey near the MV HIMALA. Strong currents reportedly dragged the pompong under a barge, causing it to sink.
Responding to the report, the Pekanbaru SAR Office dispatched a team of 10 personnel to the scene, located approximately 103 kilometres from their base. Head of the Pekanbaru SAR Office, Budi Cahyadi, stated that the search and rescue operation is focused on the last known position of the vessel using surface search methods. He added that a dive operation will be conducted if weather and current conditions permit to expedite the search for the missing individuals.
According to the latest information, three people survived the incident, one was found dead, and three others remain missing. The SAR team is coordinating with relevant parties to locate the missing victims, who will be evacuated and taken to a hospital for further treatment once found.
