Polonia airport to be relocated
MEDAN, North Sumatra: Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II has demanded the government press ahead with relocating Polonia airport to Beringin district, Deli Serdang regency.
Head of PT Angkasa Pura II's Polonia branch Adi Supranto, said on Thursday the airport had to be relocated due to its proximity to downtown Medan.
"The airport cannot be expanded as it is located near a densely populated area. The construction of high rises could obstruct flights," said Adi.
Polonia airport has an area of 144 hectares, while it accommodates 150 flights a day, said Adi, adding the airport should be located out of town.
The tender process for the project will begin next year. - JP
