Pollution detector installed

PURWAKARTA, West Java: An air pollution monitoring instrument will soon be installed in this rapidly industrializing district of West Java, Antara reported yesterday.

"It's time for Purwakarta to have such an instrument to measure the air pollution caused by the town's factories," the head of the local health office, H.M. Aried Achdiar Adiwinata, said.

He said locals have been complaining of the stench coming from factory waste, particularly on rainy days.

The local health office is also to regularly check on the health of residents, particularly those living in the subdistricts of Cicadas and Cilangkap, which are located near the factories. (swe)
