Political education
In his speech at the closing of the Congress of the PPP (United Development Party), last week, Vice President Try Sutrisno said the party should continue to conduct political education for its younger members so as to produce reliable agents of development, who are sensitive to the problems facing the nation and who possess a well-defined concept of nationalism.
The congress has re-elected H. Ismail Hasan Metareum as general chairman of the party's executive board for the 1994-1999 period.
As one of the pillars of Pancasila democracy, PPP should play a more active role in the people's political education, so that the people know not only their rights but also their responsibilities as loyal citizens.
The urgent task is to motivate people to do everything in their power to enhance their welfare -- materially and spiritually.
In the context of globalization, in which competitiveness is a pre-requisite, we have to be consistent in the national system of life that is based on the principles of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
