Polish Embassy responds

Referring to the letter of Brien Doyle titled Truth and libel in The Jakarta Post on April 12, I would like to stress that Pope John Paul II personally witnessed the atrocities, mass killings and deportation of people to death camps and the other crimes against humanity of the six years of Nazi occupation in Poland during World War II.

That was one of the main reasons why the Pope always defended life and human dignity. The Holy Father always stands firm as a great defender of humanity and the truth.

Maybe Doyle could answer the question of why Pope John Paul II was so popular among the youth of all countries, if according to Doyle, His Holiness was so conservative?

Please open your heart, as the Pope always did in speaking to people of different religions and views.
