Policewomen hurt in accident

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Dozens of policewomen were injured when a bus they were riding in plunged into a ravine on Tuesday, Antara said.

The 28 policewomen were on their way to Trikora Military Command Headquarters here after visiting Kusuma Trikora Heroes Cemetery in Abepura. Witnesses said the bus failed to climb a slope, tipped over and plunged into the ravine on the left hand side of the road.

The bus driver also was injured.

The news agency said rain had made the road slippery, while police suspected the driver was late in changing gear, causing the vehicle to fail. (swe)
