Policewomen disguise as yuppies

JAKARTA: Security personnel deployed to guard the high-profile
Annual Session do not always have to sport their military or
police uniform.

Several policewomen from the Jakarta Police assigned to
provide security at the legislative building are not wearing
their usual brown uniform.

Sporting dark gray suits and trousers, white shirts, and high
heels, even a trendy purse, they look more like women executives
than law enforcers.

The change of attire, however, does not mean they have
mellowed. These pretty looking law enforcers take their duty
seriously, including searching visitors' bags and checking
visitors' ID cards, making sure that no one is carrying
explosives.

Their presence helps visitors feel less nervous as the
legislative compound is heavily guarded with military tanks and
the police bomb squad. -- JP
