Policemen nabbed with marijuana

PEKANBARU, Riau: The provincial police are considering how to deal with an officer caught smuggling 160 kilograms of marijuana from Aceh, along with three officers from the North Sumatra Police.

Riau Police chief Brig. Gen. Jonny Yodjana said the officer, whose name is being withheld, would be punished, pending the completion of an investigation by the North Sumatra Police.

The four police officers were caught last Thursday during a regular check by the Tanah Karo Police in North Sumatra of vehicles crossing the provincial border from Aceh.

Aside from the stash of marijuana, the North Sumatra Police confiscated the car and weapons belonging to the four officers.

The Riau policeman was on duty in restive Aceh.

Jonny has repeatedly told the head of the security task force in Aceh to monitor the activities of the men deployed there. --JP
