Policemen arrested over car thefts

BOGOR (JP): Two Jakarta-based police officers were arrested here on Thursday for vehicle theft, Bogor Police detective chief Sr. Insp. Roy Hardi said on Friday.

A BMW sedan and a Toyota Kijang van were confiscated from the two officers, Roy said. "We also confiscated a 38 caliber revolver with six bullets."

The two, identified as Sgt. Maj. Sulikan and Chief Sgt. Sarwata were arrested at the Wisma Puri Mirah hotel in downtown Bogor for their alleged involvement in a series of auto thefts.

Roy said that the arrest began with a routine check of nightspots by Bogor police officers. The officers came across two detectives who were surveilling the suspects at Wisma Puri Mirah hotel.

They joined forces and arrested Sulikan and Sarwata in the hotel. The two policemen did not resist arrest.

According to Roy, Sulikan was posted in Bogor. "But he was involved in a car theft and was transferred to the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta." (21/sur)
