Policeman stabbed to death in Medan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Donald Simanjuntak, a police corporal in Percut Sei Tuan district here, was stabbed to death in a robbery on Friday.

Lt. Col. Amrin Karim, the spokesman for the North Sumatra Provincial Police, said over the weekend that Simanjuntak was killed while riding his motorcycle in a village in the district.

Two brothers, identified as Hasrul Siregar and Hendrik Siregar, allegedly stopped the officer and asked him for a ride.

"Moments after they got on (the motorcycle), Hasrul pulled a cable around Simanjuntak's neck from behind while Hendrik stabbed him with a knife," he said.

Police believe the motive behind the killing was robbery.

The two suspects were captured only hours after the incident and are being detained for further questioning. (21)
