Policeman killed by fishermen
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: A policeman died after allegedly
being assaulted and then drowned in the sea while investigating
the use of explosives by fisherman from Palue Island, Sikka
regency.
Brig. Achmad Pellon of Aesesa Police was reportedly attacked
in his boat before being drowned.
East Nusa Tenggara Police chief Brig. Gen. Edward Aritonang
said on Monday that the police had arrested four suspects
allegedly responsible for Friday's attack at their hideout on
Palue Island.
"Several witnesses said the victim fired a warning shot but
had not been able to fend of his attackers," Aritonang said.
Achmad's body was discovered by a search-and-rescue team on
Sunday. He will be buried in his hometown in Toraja, South
Sulawesi. -- JP
