Police wrap up Depok graft case

JAKARTA: The police revealed on Thursday that they have apprehended three people suspected of producing pirated compact discs at a plant in the Nusa Indah storage compound in Tangerang.

"In a single cycle of production, they could produce over 35,000 compact discs," Adj. Sr. Comr. Agung Sabar Santoso, deputy chief of city police detectives for special crimes.

Agung said the suspects, identified as SP, EM and BS, were directors of PT KMC, which owns the plant.

Police also seized 25,000 pirated CDs as well as seven duplicators.

The suspects claimed they duplicated CDs as requested by pirate CD traders in Glodok, West Jakarta.

"People working in the production to distribution chains do not know each other. They used certain secret codes to communicate their transactions," Agung said.

Police estimate that the piracy has caused losses to the state of up to Rp 200 million.-- JP
