'Police' victimize 1 more

TANGERANG: An unidentified gang of police officers committed
at least one more crime on Thursday, but there was some doubt as
to whether they were actual cops or bogus ones.

The latest victim was Achmad, 25, a security guard. He was
beaten up on Thursday by four men claiming to be police officers
searching for a criminal suspect.

He was left black and blue after he asked to see their
identity cards.

Last week, seven men, dressed as police officers, but whose
identity remains suspect, were "searching for fugitives", when
they beat up and robbed four kerosene vendors.

A police spokesman later stated that they were looking into
the cases, but were still unable to determine whether the crooks
were real officers or bogus ones.

"But I assure you, we'll never tolerate this and will take
firm actions against our members found guilty of such crimes,"
said Tangerang police detective chief Adj. Comr. Asep Adi Saputra
on Saturday. --JP
