Police use tear gas to end brawl

JAKARTA: Hundreds of residents from Kampung Rawa, near Gembrong market, Johar Baru district, Central Jakarta, were involved in a mass brawl on Wednesday. No fatalities were reported.

The angry residents threw stones and molotov cocktail at each other during the brawl which started at 6 a.m.

Dozens of police officers, who were deployed to the scene, used tear gas to disperse the angry mobs.

The brawl was believed a continuation of a fight between youths in the area on Monday. Similar brawls have regularly occurred in the area in the past few years. -- JP
