Police told to get tough on drugs

SURABAYA: The newly established Anti-Narcotics Movement, during a meeting with the police here on Friday, called for a tougher stance on drug traffickers.

"Sterner action is necessary to curb trafficking and prevent the increasing number of drug addicts in the area," the movement's spokesman, Mochtar Moekri, said after the meeting with North Surabaya Police chief Supt. M. Noerjajadi.

The meeting with the police was aimed at coordinating efforts to curb the distribution of narcotics.

He said the demand was made because there was a belief that in the past drug traffickers often went unpunished. (lup)
