Police to strengthen territorial skills

JAKARTA: The National Police plan to simplify their organizational structure at the center and strengthen their territorial capabilities, National Police Chief General Da'i Bachtiar said here Thursday.

"The jurisdiction of district and sector police commands will be extended and their manpower strength increased," he said at the induction new officials at the National Police headquarters.

Among the officials installed was Comr. Gen Kadaryanto who had been named National Police deputy chief.

Da'i said the National Polcie Headquarters would eventually only handle special cases such as transnational crimes.

Initially, all sector police stations in Java would be provided with a car and more than 6,000 other sector commands in the country would be given transportation facilities according to need such as speedboats, horses or motorcycles.

Meanwhile, 26,000 new recruits would be added to the police force next year, he said. -- Antara
