Police to question Sutiyoso

JAKARTA: Police will question Governor Sutiyoso as a witness in the alleged misuse of a Rp 4.2 billion flood victim fund managed by the Institute of Civic Education (ICE).

"The governor is required to spare some of his time for questioning on Tuesday, Nov. 19," city police spokesman Snr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam said on Tuesday.

He said, however, that the venue for the questioning had not been determined. It could take place at City Hall or the Jakarta Police Headquarters, Antara reported.

Anton said the summons for the governor had been signed by city police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Sunarno and would be sent on Wednesday.

Earlier this year, the city administration held a charity event to raise money for flood victims. The money was handed over to ICE, a non-governmental organization chaired by Irma Hutabarat. Most of the money, however, reportedly was never distributed to flood victims.

The police have named Hendrawan, the organization's treasurer, as a suspect in the case.

Irma claims ICE has provided 411 students in the city with between Rp 65,000 and Rp 90,000 a month.--JP
