Police to probe high profile crimes

PEKANBARU, Riau: Riau police vowed on Thursday to investigate alleged crimes involving some high ranking regency officials in the province.

The cases include alleged counterfeiting of university diplomas by Kampar regent Jefri Noer and Tanjung Balai Karimun deputy regent Nurdin Basirun, alleged illegal fees imposed by Bengkalis regent Syamsurizal and mark-ups on the regency budget allegedly committed by officials in the Pekanbaru mayoralty administration.

"The cases are sensitive as they involve high ranking officials in the respective administrations, so the police will investigate carefully and thoroughly," said Riau Police chief Brig. Gen. Deddy Komaruddin.

Meanwhile, the Riau Prosecutor's Office spokesman, Dimpuian Siallagan, said the office had established a team to investigate the allegedly illegal fees collected by the Bengkalis regent. -- JP
