Police to get helicopters

PONTIANAK: Every regional police headquarters is to get one helicopter by the end of 2003.

"We will provide the helicopters for 26 provincial police headquarters," said Director of Air Police Brig. Gen. Sudarsono in Pontianak on Thursday as reported by Antara.

Meanwhile, Insp. Gen. Chairul Rasjid, deputy chairman of security, said the procurement of the helicopters would be conducted through an export credit facility.

He said following the success of Indonesian police in investigating the Bali bombings, many foreign countries had offered their assistance.

"We have gained much confidence from foreign countries, so we've decided to take this opportunity to improve our services to the public," he said. -- Antara
