Police to curb rights violations

MEDAN: National Police chief Gen. Sutanto said that eight provincial police forces were suspected of committing serious human rights violations during criminal investigations.

He said that the eight forces included Jakarta, North Sumatra, Aceh, Papua, West Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, East Java and East Nusa Tenggara.

Sutanto was speaking during a ceremony held to launch a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the National Police and the National Commission on Human Rights (KOMNAS-HAM), which is aimed at boosting cooperation in monitoring and curbing rights violation by police officers. -- JP
