Police to be deployed aboard trains
JAKARTA: In the wake of a recent robbery on an electric train, the city police plan to deploy officers to train stations in Greater Jakarta as well as on board electric trains during this holiday season.
Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Prasetyo said the police would cooperate with state railway company PT KAI in putting into action the plan to provide security for train passengers.
This measure will be integrated into continuing operations to secure the capital during the Idul Fitri and Christmas holidays, dubbed Ketupat Lilin 2002, beritajakarta.com reported.
Earlier reports said that five people were robbed in an electric train car from Jakarta heading to Bogor, the thieves escaping with passengers' valuables.--JP
