Police ticket 6,603 offenders

JAKARTA: Officers from the Jakarta Police's traffic division have ticketed 6,603 offenders since the new three-in-one traffic policy began on Jan. 26.

The head of the traffic division, Sr. Comr. Sulistyo Ishak, said on Thursday violators were ticketed after entering the three-in-one restricted zone.

Police also called on motorists to begin wearing their seat belts, warning they may begin vigorously ticketing those who violate the regulation beginning on May 5.

According to data from the city police, 1,874 people have been injured in 5,647 traffic accidents since the beginning of this year. Of this number, 34 percent suffered head injuries that may have been prevented had they been wearing their seat belts. -- Antara
