Police submit fuel depot file
JAKARTA: The police case against two PT Pertamina officials allegedly involved in stealing fuel from the firm's Plumpang fuel depot has been submitted to the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office after a four-month investigation.
Jakarta Police have named depot technical director Sasmita Utama and depot unit III head Umar Fahmi as the main suspects.
Fraud squad head Sr. Comr. Edmon Ilyas said on Friday police had only charged the two men with violating Law No. 2/1981 on weight and measures because of a lack of corroborating evidence.
"Initially we expected to charge them under the anti- corruption law and the weight and measures law. However, as we have to audit the depot's financial report and it might take a year, we have only charged them with the weight and measures law," Edmon said.
Police have estimated that up to 100,000 liters of fuel was stolen a day from Plumpang and sent to Tangerang and Bekasi. They did not provide details about the period of the alleged offense, or how much it had cost the company.-- JP
