JAKARTA (JP): A man who was attempting to steal an air conditioner was shot in the hip by a police officer from the Mampang Police station.

According to the police report, Darwin bin Ganger, 36, and four of his friends were trying to escape with the air conditioner in a Marina taxi when the police caught up with them at the Pondok Karya intersection in the Pela Mampang subdistrict of South Jakarta.

Mampang Police officers stopped the taxi and the five suspects tried to run off with the air conditioner.

"Four suspects got away and one was shot in the hip. He's probably still at Kramatjati Police Hospital," City police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis said. (ylt)
