Police shoot two robbers
JAKARTA (JP): North Jakarta Police detectives shot two men believed to have stolen thongs on Monday afternoon on Jl. Gedong Panjang in West Jakarta, an officer said.
The officer, who requested anonymity, identified the robbers as Jumadi and Arif Firmansyah.
"One was shot on the face, another in the head. Both are currently being treated for their wounds at the Soekanto Police Hospital in Kramatjati (East Jakarta)," the officer said.
"The third one, the driver, Abdul Mushalif, got away."
The officer explained that at about 1 p.m. on Monday, the two men were seen unloading two sacks of stolen thongs from a truck. When police saw them, they tried to run away.
"Police felt something was wrong and chased after them. When police told them to stop, they ignored them and kept on running. So, finally the officers shot them," he said.
Meanwhile, South Jakarta police detectives fatally shot two fugitives on Jl. Paso in the Jagakarsa area at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday midnight.
The robbers were identified as April Yahdi and Joe Wahyudi. The two men were initially arrested for their alleged roles in car thefts last month and since then had been detained at the South Jakarta Police precinct until they escaped few days ago. (ylt)
